Like everything else in our society, advertising has both negative and postive effects on sports. Personally i don't see anything wrong with advertising being plastered all over baseball stadiums, basketball courts, soccer fields, etc. It has become the norm this day and age.
I feel that advertising is what keeps some sports alive. Like we discussed in class, sporting teams who don't have a good record or maybe reputation need advertising for funds because ticket sales would not be enough to pay for the team's expenses.
On the other side, it could be negative when the players try to advertise themselves. All the stunts that most football players do on and off the field differ but all of it is just an act of publicity. Most go farther and beyond than others, but I feel the competition amongst the players are getting ridiculous. It's almost as if they will do anything (beat their wives, do drugs, brawling even at games, etc.) to be noticed and to be a part of the media.
Overall, I do think that sports need advertising. It creates competition amongst products being endorsed, creating more revenue. It's just always going to be a part of sports.
