I don't think that sensationalism hurts the reputation of the media sources. I think that sensationalism is just their strategy to get people to tune in. Every business has a strategy and this is just their way of getting people's attention.
Yes, sometimes it's frustrating when they make things seem a lot bigger than it is, but it doesn't really hurt anybody, for the most part. It's just really cheesy but it is what it is.
To me, news sensationalism is making things seem bigger or more latebreaking than it really is. To me it's just a strategy.
